“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth; so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” Romans 12:3
“Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life. Don’t use your mouth to tell lies; don’t ever say things that are not true. Keep your eyes focused on what is right, and look straight ahead to what is good.” Proverbs 4:23-25
General Reflections:
The prophet Isaiah reminds us that we are prone to think and act that is so different from the way God thinks and acts. God made us in His own image. However, we tend to make God in our own image instead. If we react in a certain way, we assume that God would think and act in a similar way. But in this passage, God reminds us that He exists and thinks on a much different level.
Human reasoning cannot grasp the thought processes of God so we need to ask Him to reorient our thoughts and ways to His will. We need to ask Him every day to reorient our thoughts according to His thoughts and transform our ways according to His ways. Because if we do not do this, we can get caught up in everyday living like what the world expects us to live ie doing what everybody else is doing; we will conform to the ways of this secular and materialistic world rather than the ways of our loving, generous and merciful God.
The challenge is, if we’re not careful, we can get caught going through the daily motions according to the thoughts and ways of this world and therefore missing out on what God designs for us to think and live.
The Book of Proverbs reminds us to be careful of what and how to think, not to lie and keep focused on what is right and look straight ahead to what is good.
Personal Reflections:
When you make plans, do you pray and ask God to help you in your planning and offer Him that may your plans be according to His will?
Do you seek God’s wisdom and direction before you make a big decision for yourself and your family?
Do you ask the Holy Spirit for help and guidance every time you make a decision in regards to your service in the community?
Do your plans include service to others or only in relation to your job, family, activities, hobbies, travels and other vanities in life?
