Bible passages: Ephesians 4:17-24
“Now this I affirm and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds, they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart; they have become callous and have given themselves up to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of uncleanness. But that is not the way you learned Christ; assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus. Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Reflections:
In the above passage, we are called to put off our old nature and put on a new nature. We are to take off our old ways of living and put on a new way of living. We are to take off our old way of thinking and put on a new way thinking. We are to take off our old desires and put on new desires.
Simply put, we are called to put on Christ and live a new life with Him and in Him. To achieve this, we must seek intimacy with God every day. We must put off the corrupt garment of the old and put on a new garment. Having put off the corrupt garment of the old and put on a new one, we now live in glory in the light of our new found identify.
Discussions Questions:
1) What area of Christian growth do you most struggle with?
2) Are you willing to put off your corrupt garment and put on a new one?
3) When we came to new life in Christ, what are the three transforming steps that should take place in our life?
Let us pray:
Dear Father, righteous and Holy God, enable me to put away completely my old human nature – the former lifestyle corrupted by deceitful desires. Help me to be renewed in the spirit of my mind, to put on a new nature, created in your likeness in true righteousness and holiness.
Father, make me holy like Your Son, righteous with His righteousness! In the most Holy Name of Jesus I pray for true holiness within me!
Amen!
