7-9 February 2025 at Camp Somerset

SFCA Queensland recently hosted an enriching Singles Weekend Retreat (SWR) at Camp Somerset. The SWR focused on exploring the topic of the ‘Emotions of our Christian Life’, with a series of fruitful activities, discussions and prayer.

The venue, located in the mountains about a two-hour drive away for most participants, was the perfect getaway for the SWR. Our hosts, Diego Homires and Charmi Cortez did an exceptional job welcoming and engaging everyone throughout the weekend.

On the first night, participants gathered for the first talk delivered by Mea Robles. The topic of the first talk, Emotions in Our Christian LIfe, delved into important and interesting topics like Holy Indifference, inner peace and temperance, resonating deeply with the participants.

Saturday was a full day of spiritual nourishment. The second talk led by Tito JJ Jeremias explored True and False Humility. Nathan Parfan delivered the third talk on Guilt and Repentance. Both talks were insightful and nurturing.

For some participants, you could say the highlight of Saturday was the fun water games and fellowship held around midday. The games brought another aspect of joy and friendship to the SWR alongside the talks.

Later in the afternoon, Sammy Simbag spoke on Healing, which transitioned perfectly into the Healing Session. This sacred moment included adoration, confession and prayer. The evening then involved a talk from Hannah Espares on Righteous and Unrighteous Anger.

After a schedule packed Saturday, the participants joined in fellowship by either gathering by the bonfire, relaxing in the pool, or engaging in bible study.

The final day welcomed former YFCA leaders, Kuya David Homires and Ate Kyle Homires, who led separate discussions on Christian Love and Desire. Their wisdom and insight left all the participants  inspired.

The final talk was delivered by Aaron Paul Gueverra, who spoke about Fear, powerfully and movingly. Aaron Paul’s talk resonated deeply with participants as he opened up about his struggles with faith, fear, and self-doubt. He reminded everyone that in life, we will inevitably face the things that scare us, but it is through prayer and leaning on those who uplift us that we find strength.

The transition into the praise-fest was nothing short of perfect,. The beauty of praise and worship is timeless: there is something truly special about the moments when you are entirely immersed in the presence of God through singing and speaking praises.

Overall, at the heart of the SWRs success was the collective effort of many. The group is truly grateful to the organisers, the CCs, the service team, and all who participated. Their dedication and hard work created a welcoming and inspiring environment. The SWR was truly and transformative space for the participants to reconnect with God, their faith and one another.
