We are mere Stewards and Managers of our resources

by Sister Grace Huerto of Handmaids of the Lord (NSW Fairtown Chapter)

I had the opportunity to attend the HOLD General Assembly at St Aidan’s at Rooty Hill

on 21 September 2024, where we heard the teaching on Financial Stewardship 2,

a talk given by sister Jo Bonto.  Thoughtfully considering our stewardship role

as members of this community, the talk is very important for us to realize and understand the true meaning of Stewardship, which is rooted in the Scriptures.

Catholic concepts of Financial Stewardship recognise the fact that we are not the owners of our lives but rather WE ARE THE STEWARDS AND MANAGERS. God is our great financial adviser who gives us the key principles on Stewardship which are embedded in the following Scripture passages: Psalms 24, Proverbs 13: 4, Proverbs 22: 7, 2 Corinthians 9: 7, Proverbs 6: 6-8, Timothy 5: 8. It is beneficial to read these passages and discern what God is trying to teach us.

Thank you for the attendance of our sisters from Blacktown and Fairtown

who made the General Assembly possible, fruitful and successful.  I attest to the success of the talk (delivered with clarity and passion by sister Jo Bonto) based on the reports from the group discussion.

We heard positive and interesting responses from the participants' own creative ways of ensuring everyone to have a regular tithe/contribution to the community. Some of the suggestions were: stop buying online, using direct debit for tithe-giving, setting aside certain amount for tithe on each pension day, less drinking of gourmet coffee, lessen buying of non-essential items. We finished the day with a deeper understanding and appreciation of why we give tithe/contribution.

For those who have not attended the teachings on Financial Stewardship 1 and 2,

I encourage you to attend when these formation talks are next given. This will give you valuable insights on how to manage your money, treasure, time and talent according to God's wisdom.

I believe if we follow God's accounting principles our cash flow will not be on the red and a balanced sheet of receiving, giving and sharing.
